Curious Results

In a recent club game this deal was played 8 times with 8 different results and 7 different contracts. Is there a lesson here?

I thought some of you might be amused by this deal from yesterday's club game. I posted it on the Bridge Winners site to get some learned feedback:

Rod's Major Suit Raises

The Problem Consider the following hands (which we will call "Case 1") for an opening bid of one spade, using five-card majors: AQxxx Kxx Kx xxx AQxxx Kxx xxx Kx AQxxx Kx Kxx xxx AQxxx Kx xxx Kxx AQxxx xxx Kx Kxx AQxxx xxx Kxx Kx and the following holdings by responder: Kxxx QJxx Qxxx x K...

Re: Australia-Wide Restricted Pairs

I should elaborate on "astute play" for taking 12 tricks after a low heart lead. After the first trick and seven rounds of black cards the hands will come down to: 5,A6,J6,-- --,2,1085,J --,KQ5,KQ,-- --,1097,A9,-- East is in a pickle when the last spade is cashed. If she discards a heart t...

Australia-Wide Restricted Pairs

Pauly and I played in this by accident, as it was offered at the last minute by the club in yesterday's regular game. We placed first at the club level but it didn't matter beyond that because we have too many masterpoints to qualify at the restricted level. Lyn Smith and Jenny Archer were just behi...

Vulnerability and The Law

Playing IMPs with the robots today I picked up this hand as South, both vulnerable. J64,AK642,1032,97 West opened 1 ♦ , partner overcalled 2 ♥ and East doubled. Your call? The Law of Total Tricks would suggest that 4 ♥ is a no-brainer. However with this hand that just didn't feel right and I chose 3...

Re: One Little Detail

To be sure the defence was not stellar. West's early play of the A was not wise, and East could have ducked the ♠Q to deny declarer an entry to hand. Much of winning bridge is being able to capitalize on such errors.

One Little Detail

Here's an everyday deal that I encountered with the robots today. Partscore contracts are often more interesting than games and slams, with many possible twists and turns. And with both sides in the bidding everyone will have more clues as to the distribution of the cards. North Q973,KQ82,94,A98 Sou...

Who's Sacrificing?

This is one of the more memorable deals from Monday's club game, a red point event. Doug was my partner. I'll just post a screenshot of the online results. Screenshot from 2022-10-17 20-05-27.png The auction proceeded: West Rod East Doug 1 ♥ 2 ♦ 3♣ 3 ♦ 4♣ 4 ♦ 5♣ 5 ♦ Pass Pass 6♣ Pass Pass Dbl All pa...
